Berhampur, Nov 7: A passenger bus overturned at Kalinga Ghat on Thursday, injuring all 15 passengers on board. The bus was traveling from Bargarh to Berhampur when the incident occurred.

According to reports, 15 of the passengers sustained injuries, with three of them reported to be in critical condition.

Fire brigades from Ganjam and Kandhamal districts, along with ambulances and police, immediately reached the spot and began rescue operations. The injured passengers were being shifted to the Bhujanganagar Medical for treatment.

According to Rupak Nanda, a driver from the Bhujanganagar area, the bus was on its way to Bhujanganagar when the accident occurred. He mentioned that as the bus started descending Kalinga Ghat, the vehicle’s brakes failed. The driver informed the other staff members about the brake failure, but no immediate action could be taken. In a desperate attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver put the bus into neutral and applied the handbrake. However, the bus overturned, and fortunately, the lives of all the passengers were saved, as per Rupak’s statement.

One of the female passengers was reported to be in critical condition due to the accident. Authorities are continuing to provide medical assistance to the injured.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
