Bhadrak/Jagatsinghpur, Dec 24: In a major breakthrough in the rape and murder case of a 10-year-old girl in Chandbali, Bhadrak, the main accused has been arrested by the police from Jagatsinghpur. The incident had triggered widespread public outrage, leading to roadblocks and unrest in Chandbali, where a platoon of police was deployed to maintain law and order.

Eastern Range DIG Pinak Mishra, reacting to the case, said that the investigation faced challenges due to the lack of witnesses but added that multiple teams were formed, and the accused was apprehended within 12 hours. “People were agitated, but we managed to control the situation. Sensitive material was recovered from the accused, and he has confessed to the crime,” Mishra stated.

The Bhadrak SP and the police team had already taken full responsibility for the investigation. A POCSO case was registered at the request of the victim’s father. The autopsy of the child is being conducted to obtain conclusive evidence, and a scientific team is assisting in the probe. While one accused’s involvement has been confirmed, investigations are ongoing to identify any additional suspects.
