Warmer nights and unexpected thunderstorms will soon hit the state
Residents across the state should prepare for shifting climate conditions over the coming week. Recent data shows completely dry conditions prevailing, but significant changes are on the horizon. While the immediate twenty-four hours will remain dry, the following days will introduce a mix of rising nighttime heat, hazy mornings, and sudden showers.
Meteorological officials anticipate a noticeable shift in the regional weather rhythm. Prepare for a gradual rise in minimum nighttime temperatures by roughly two to three degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours. After this initial jump, night temperatures will largely stabilize across most districts without any further dramatic fluctuations.
Current statistics highlight a stark contrast between the plains and the hill stations. Paralakhemundi recently recorded the highest maximum temperature at a scorching 36.2°C, while the capital city of Bhubaneswar reached a hot 35.4°C during the day. Conversely, Phulbani remained much cooler, registering the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 14.0°C. Up in the hill stations, G. Udayagiri saw the mercury drop to a chilly 12.0°C.
Do not let the current dry spell catch you off guard. Following a quiet first day, the second and third days of the current forecast window will bring isolated light to moderate rain showers. Certain marked districts must also brace for active thunderstorms accompanied by dangerous lightning strikes and gusty surface winds. By the fourth day, these severe weather warnings will expire, returning the state to a dry and calm pattern through day seven.
Morning commuters should remain highly cautious regarding reduced road visibility. Over the first day, isolated pockets throughout Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur will likely experience shallow to moderate fog during the early morning hours. Moving into the second day, this foggy weather will shift slightly to affect Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur. We have already seen these hazards become active, as Kendrapada recently dealt with dense fog that dropped visibility below 200 meters, while Paradip navigated moderate fog.
