Nayagarh, Jan 30: In a positive development for wildlife conservation and tourism, the number of black tigers in the state has reportedly increased. The Nayagarh Forest Division, in particular, has received encouraging signs of growth in the black tiger population within the district’s forest areas.

According to the Forest Department, while the official tiger census is still underway, preliminary estimates based on trap camera footage suggest the presence of around seven black tigers in Nayagarh forests. The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) said these visuals indicate a rise in the population.

To support wildlife growth and maintain ecological and health balance, the Forest Department has installed salt licks at various locations inside the forests. These salt licks are attracting different species of wild animals, a development also confirmed through trap camera recordings.

The DFO further stated that the Forest Department remains fully alert and committed to the protection and conservation of wildlife across the district.
