Mumbai, January 31: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a key ally in Maharashtra's Mahayuti coalition, submitted a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday regarding the election of Sunetra Pawar, the wife of the late Ajit Pawar, as its new legislature party leader.

Sunetra Pawar is poised to take the oath of office as Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, succeeding her late husband Ajit Pawar, who tragically passed away in a plane crash on Wednesday.

Senior NCP leaders, including Praful Patel, Sunil Tatkare, and Chagan Bhujbal, met with CM Fadnavis at his official residence, 'Varsha', in South Mumbai, and formally handed over the letter.

The letter will be forwarded by Fadnavis to Governor Acharya Devvrat for further action.

Sunetra Pawar was elected as the NCP legislature party leader during a meeting held in Mumbai earlier on Saturday. The Governor is scheduled to administer the oath of office and secrecy to her at 5 pm the same day.
