The iconic Bollywood classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) has completed 30 years since its release. The film, which premiered on 20 October 1995, remains one of the most successful and longest-running films in Indian cinema. Along with its box-office success, the film’s soundtrack continues to enjoy enduring popularity across generations.

As part of the 30th-anniversary celebrations, a bronze statue of the film’s beloved characters Raj and Simran was unveiled at London’s Leicester Square. Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, who played the lead roles, were present for the unveiling ceremony. This marks the first time an Indian film has been honoured with a statue at the prestigious Leicester Square, home to the popular 'Scenes in the Square' trail.

The unveiling was attended by Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani and Heart of London Business Alliance Chief Executive Ros Morgan. The event also highlighted the deep cultural ties shared between India and the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shah Rukh Khan expressed gratitude and nostalgia, calling DDLJ a film “very close to his heart.” He said, “This is an emotional moment that brings back many memories. I am proud of the love the film has received worldwide, and I share this moment with the entire DDLJ team, director Aditya Chopra and the YRF family.”

Kajol also reflected on the milestone, stating that receiving such immense love even after three decades was heartwarming. “Watching the statue being unveiled in London felt like reliving a part of our history — a story that has endured across generations,” she said.

The statue, depicting Raj and Simran in their iconic poses, is expected to become a major attraction for fans visiting Leicester Square.
