Indore, October 25: The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) expressed deep distress over the reported molestation of two Australian women cricketers in Indore, condemning the incident as a severe violation of safety and dignity.

“No woman should ever have to face such inappropriate behaviour. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the affected players. This incident is harrowing for not only the victims but also for the entire sports community, and for our state and city,” said Mahanaaryaman Scindia, President of the MPCA, in a statement on X.

The shocking incident, involving two Australian cricketers, has sparked widespread outrage in both the cricketing world and the local community. The event led to swift arrests and strong condemnations from officials.

Scindia reaffirmed that Madhya Pradesh, particularly Indore, has long been known for its respect and hospitality towards visitors. He added that the cricketers, who were staying at a premium hotel in the city for the Women’s World Cup, were harassed as they walked to a nearby café, casting a shadow on the state’s reputation for hospitality.

“The actions of one individual have tarnished the proud image of this city, leaving all of us deeply saddened. We commend the swift and decisive action by the local authorities and police, who quickly apprehended the accused. The MPCA stands in full solidarity with the Australian team and the affected players, and we will continue to offer our full cooperation to the investigating agencies,” Scindia stated.

According to local police, the incident took place on Thursday when two young men on a motorcycle allegedly approached the cricketers. The suspects verbally and physically harassed them before fleeing the scene.

In distress, the players immediately called the hotel’s security and team personnel, including Danny Simmons, who alerted local authorities. Police quickly responded, identifying and arresting one of the suspects, 28-year-old Aqueel Khan, on Friday. Efforts are ongoing to capture the second assailant.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya echoed the condemnation, saying, “If this incident is true, it is utterly shameful… Strict action will be taken against those responsible, as it concerns the honour of our nation.”

Vijayvargiya assured that the state government would ensure justice and take steps to prevent such occurrences in the future. While the Australian team management has confirmed the incident, they have refrained from further comment, focusing on the welfare of their players.

Cricket Australia is in communication with local organisers to enhance security for the remainder of the tournament. This incident has sparked widespread debate on the safety of women in public spaces, especially during major international events.

In Indore, residents and cricket fans have expressed their support for the victims, with many applauding the prompt police response.

The MPCA has vowed to strengthen safety protocols for all event participants. The arrested suspect faces charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, with a court hearing scheduled shortly.
