Keonjhar, Nov 12: In a tragic incident, an ITI student allegedly committed suicide in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday reportedly after his family refused to buy him a new smart phone.

The deceased has been identified as Sailesh Mahanta, a native of Balasore district.

Sources said that Sailesh was residing with his maternal uncle’s family in Guludiposi village, under Baria police limits in Keonjhar while pursuing his ITI studies.

As per reports, Sailesh had recently demanded his family to buy him a new smart-phone to which they refused. Reportedly, he became upset over this and allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a piece of cloth from a tree behind his uncle’s house today morning.

Upon seeing him hanging, his family members brought him down and rushed to Bhanda Community Health Centre (CHC). Unfortunately, the attending doctors declared him brought dead.

After getting the information, Baria police reached the hospital and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent it for post-mortem.

An unnatural death case has been registered and further investigation is underway, said the police.
