Documents show girlfriend Karyna Shuliak receiving millions from trust

Fresh details regarding the financial legacy of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein have emerged, shedding light on who stands to gain from his remaining wealth. Documents recently released by the US Department of Justice indicate that Epstein signed a critical legal paper, known as the "1953 Trust," just two days before his death in 2019. This document names his then-girlfriend, Karyna Shuliak, as a primary beneficiary of the Jeffrey Epstein estate.

Karyna Shuliak and the 1953 Trust

Information within the 32-page document reveals that Epstein had seriously considered marrying Shuliak. A native of Belarus, Shuliak had known Epstein since 2012. Records show that the financier covered the costs for her dental school education, and she currently resides in New York City. Under the terms of the trust—named after Epstein’s birth year—Shuliak is projected to receive a significant sum. Reports suggest a figure around $100 million, which includes a $50 million annuity specifically established for her benefit.

A Shrinking Fortune

While the figures sound astronomical, the actual value of the Jeffrey Epstein estate has plummeted over the last seven years. Originally valued at approximately $600 million at the time of his death, recent court filings suggest the net worth has dropped sharply to around $120 million. This significant decrease is attributed to hefty legal fees, taxes, and mandatory restitution payments made to victims.

Other Key Figures Involved

Shuliak is not the only individual listed in the documents. The trust outlines payouts for Epstein’s personal lawyer, Darren Indyke, and his in-house accountant, Richard Kahn. Both men serve as co-executors of the estate. The papers propose allocating $50 million to Indyke and $25 million to Kahn. Other familiar names, such as Ghislaine Maxwell and Mark Epstein, also appear among a list of 40 potential beneficiaries.

The Legal Reality Check

Despite these projected payouts, receiving the money is not guaranteed. Daniel Weiner, a lawyer representing the estate, clarified the situation to the New York Times. He stated that neither Shuliak, Indyke, Kahn, nor any other listed beneficiary will receive funds until all creditors and claims are fully satisfied. This specifically prioritizes compensation claims from women who suffered abuse, ensuring victims are paid before any inheritance is distributed.
