​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: Authorities of Jawahar Navoday Vidyalaya (JNV) Khordha, sought emergency assistance of the state health department on Sunday following outbreak of Hepatitis A on the campus.

As a preventive measure, as many as 50 students who are affected with the HAV(Jaundice), have been isolated from the school hostel, and are kept under medical supervision.

According to report, at least 50 students of Jawahar Navoday Vidyalaya (JNV) situated at Gurujang in Odisha’s Khordha district, were found HAV positive.The affected ones are reportedly from Classes VI and Class XII.

On being aware of the massive infection, the JNV authorites took essential measures to contain the disease. However, the infection gradually surged on the campus, deepening concern for the parents. As a result, Khordha DHH health teams took stock of the matter. Meanwhile, the institution wrote to the Odisha Health & Family Welfare Department in this connection, for essential aid. The School Principal urged the department to set up a temporary health check up team in the premises to contain the HAV infection at the earliest.

Informing guardians on the HAV infections on the rise, NC Chakra, Vice Principal of the school said, essential care & treatment of the affected ones are underway. In order to rule out contaminated water as a probable cause, all overhead tanks were duly bleached & cleaned. Water and food samples were sent to testing labs for examination and found safe.

On being informed, medical teams led by Specialist doctors reached the campus in the day to take stock of the matter. However, the underlying cause of the surging HAV infections is yet to be ascertained.
