Bhubaneswar, Feb 24: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a major safety and visibility enhancement project along the 530 km stretch of NH-16 in Odisha. The initiative, with an investment of ₹60 crore, aims to make driving safer and reduce accidents on the busy corridor.

As part of the project, large signboards will be installed in key cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Khordha, Bhadrak, and Balasore. These gantry-mounted boards will display distances to destinations and other essential information, ensuring visibility from up to 100 meters away.

Road safety features such as studs, flexible median markers, and medians will be installed, particularly at sensitive points and accident-prone “black spots.” High-mast lights will also be erected at major intersections and traffic points to improve nighttime visibility.

The NHAI expects that these measures will significantly reduce accidents and help ease traffic congestion along the highway, improving overall road safety for commuters.
