Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: The winter chill has tightened its grip on Odisha, with night temperatures continuing to fall across the state for the past two days. According to the regional meteorological department, Monday night temperatures dropped by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius compared to Sunday in most areas, making the chill more noticeable.

Weather experts predict a further dip in temperatures in the coming days. On Tuesday night, temperatures are expected to drop by another 1 degree, while Wednesday may see a slight rise of about 2 degrees. However, from November 7, the cold conditions are likely to intensify again.

By November 8, Kandhamal district could witness a sharp fall in temperature, touching around 13°C in several areas. Rourkela is likely to record 14°C, Sambalpur 16°C, and Gajapati around 15°C. The coastal belt is also expected to experience a similar drop in temperature, said agricultural meteorologist Dr. Surendranath Pashupalak.

Despite the recent dip, the Met office forecasts no significant change in night temperatures across the state over the next six to seven days.

In Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature over the next 24 hours is likely to hover around 31°C, while the minimum will be around 21°C. The sky will remain partly cloudy. Temperatures in northern and southern coastal Odisha have remained normal over the past 24 hours, while the southern interior regions are expected to see stable conditions as well.

Meanwhile, the famous hill town of Daringbadi recorded a sharp drop from 18°C on Sunday to 15°C on Monday. Phulbani saw a similar decline from 18.5°C to 15°C, and Koraput’s temperature fell from 16°C to 15.4°C. Nine locations across Odisha recorded night temperatures below 20°C on Monday, indicating that the winter chill has well and truly arrived.
