Bhubaneswar, January 21: The All Odisha Electrical Contractors' Association has strongly opposed the state government’s decision to terminate the Short Tender Notice. During its annual meeting held today in Bhubaneswar, the association raised concerns over issues negatively impacting electrical contractors and their livelihoods.

The state government had previously cancelled the Short Tender Notice, a move the association argues is detrimental not only to the contractors but also to the general public, particularly those dependent on uninterrupted electrical services. In response, association members have formally protested the termination and submitted a request to the government to reinstate the notice immediately.

The meeting also highlighted the challenges faced by over 2,000 licensed electrical contractors in Odisha, who collectively employ more than 30,000 skilled and unskilled workers. These workers, and their families numbering in the tens of thousands, rely heavily on their work in the sector. Electrical services are an essential part of daily life, and the dedicated efforts of contractors and workers ensure a continuous supply of power. The association emphasizes that the timely execution of electrical works is vital for the public and that the termination of the Short Tender Notice significantly disrupts this process.

To address these concerns, the association has prepared a petition for submission to the Chief Minister and former ministers, urging the protection of contractors’ interests. One of the key demands is to prevent out-of-state contractors from participating in Odisha’s projects, ensuring job security for local contractors and workers.

The meeting also discussed the growing concern over Tata Power’s monopoly in the state, with participants expressing apprehensions about the company’s approach. The association has committed to raising this issue with the government for further review.

Held at the Institute of Engineers Conference Hall in Bhubaneswar, the event was attended by over 500 licensed contractors. Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh was the chief guest, while Senior BJP Leader and Association Advisor Jagannath Pradhan delivered the keynote address.

In his address, Association President Ashish Som and Secretary Bhagwan Vishwal presented updates on ongoing projects and plans. One notable announcement was the immediate commencement of construction for a new meeting hall and rest area for the association.

Founded in 1959, the All Odisha Electrical Contractors' Association has been dedicated to collaborating with the state government to serve the people of Odisha, a commitment that will continue.Bottom of Form
