​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: With the brutal assault on a doctor and a pharmacist, Doctors at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Saturday resorted to a protest wearing black badges.

The protesting doctors provided medical services in the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the Capital Hospital, symbolically wearing black badges and demanded escalated security measures.

According to sources, the silent protest was organised by the Junior Doctors’ Association who demanded stringent action against the accused and ensuring safety & security of the doctors and paramedical staff during duty.

Police on Friday detained a youth for allegedly assaulting a doctor of the Capital Hospital.

The doctor with severe injuries in his hand was admitted in the hospital for treatment.

The detained one had been identified as a patient’s attendant who hails from Nimapara area in the Puri district.

According to report, the doctor was performing his duty in the hospital. Meanwhile, a number of youths who had escorted a patient approached the doctor for prompt interventions. However, it was reportedly delayed. Aggrieved over it, the attendants thrashed the doctor black & blue. As a result, the doctor’s sustained a fracture in his hand. A pharmacist also sustained injuries during the incident, who was trying to save the doctor from the miscreants.

Outpost police swung into action and detained one accused from the spot while another aide escaped the scene.

A complaint was registered in this connection. Investigation is underway to apprehend the other accused soon, said the police.
