Balasore, Oct 22: A prisoner escaped from the Soro Sub-Jail on Tuesday evening, triggering a manhunt by local authorities. The escapee has been identified as Deepak Kumar Ray, a resident of Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district.

According to sources, Ray was arrested by Khaira Police on October 19 in connection with a disturbance in the Khaira area. Following his court appearance, his bail plea was denied, and he was sent to judicial custody at Soro Sub-Jail.

Jail authorities reported that Ray escaped by scaling the prison wall under undisclosed circumstances. The incident came to light during the evening hours.

Soro Jailor Bailochan Panda has filed a formal complaint at the Soro Police Station. In response, police have launched an investigation and initiated a search operation to trace the absconding inmate.

Security measures at the sub-jail are now under scrutiny, and authorities are questioning staff who were on duty at the time of the escape. Further updates are awaited.
