Balasore, Feb 19: A jewellery store owner from Santaragadia Square under the Nilgiri police limits in Balasore district was robbed of gold ornaments worth Rs 50 lakh by four armed men.

Reports suggest that the incident occurred when Krupasindhu Rana (52), the jeweller, was heading home after closing his shop. The robbers, riding two bikes, intercepted him on the way, threatened him with a gun, and forcibly snatched the gold bag from him.

In a fortunate turn of events, Rana managed to escape unharmed, despite the robbers firing shots at him during the incident. After receiving information about the robbery, the Nilgiri Police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

Gobardhan Nayak, the IIC of Nilgiri, confirmed that bullet shells were recovered from the scene. However, as of Thursday morning, Rana had yet to file an official complaint with the police, delaying the progress of the case.

The police have intensified their efforts to identify the culprits and recover the stolen gold ornaments.
