Tehran, March 3: As tensions in Iran escalate, the Indian Embassy in Tehran announced on Tuesday that it has successfully relocated most Indian students from the capital to safer areas. The mission has ensured the students are provided with transport, food, and accommodation during the move.

In an official advisory issued on March 3, the embassy explained that the relocation was prompted by the "increased security concerns" in Tehran. A small group of students has opted to remain in the city despite the embassy's relocation offer.

The embassy reiterated its earlier guidance for Indian nationals still in Iran, urging them to stay indoors as much as possible, avoid standing near windows, and exercise caution at all times. They were also advised to avoid areas where protests or demonstrations might occur. The embassy has called on Indian citizens to stay in regular contact with the Embassy of India and to monitor official updates closely.

This advisory follows a further deterioration in security after recent military strikes by the United States and Israel. The embassy had previously urged Indian nationals to limit unnecessary movement and remain vigilant of the unfolding situation.

It is estimated that approximately 9,000 Indians, including a significant number of students, are currently residing in Iran.

Nasir Kheuhami, national convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), confirmed that Indian students from Tehran had been relocated to Qom, a city deemed safer amidst ongoing airstrikes and escalating tensions. As part of a well-organized relocation process, students were transported by buses arranged by the embassy under close supervision and coordination of Indian authorities.

“The JKSA has maintained direct communication with the students, confirming that all are safe and accounted for, including those from Jammu & Kashmir. While anxiety remains high among parents due to the volatile situation, the timely relocation has provided reassurance and relief to families back home,” Kheuhami said.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Tehran are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating efforts to protect Indian nationals. "Further measures, including a potential evacuation, will be taken as the situation develops, contingent on the reopening of airspace and the evolving security environment," Kheuhami added.

The JKSA expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy for their prompt action and continuous support during this critical period. The association commended the embassy’s proactive engagement, including maintaining regular communication and providing necessary assistance to stranded students.

"We remain in constant contact with the students, their families, and the Ministry of External Affairs, regularly updating authorities on the ground situation and the concerns faced by students. The embassy has been instrumental in assisting the students and ensuring their safety," Kheuhami said.

He reassured parents, urging them to stay calm and trust that coordinated efforts are ongoing to safeguard the well-being of all students. "Rest assured, those who have been relocated are safe, under supervision, and receiving continuous support. Further steps will be taken in a structured and timely manner as the situation evolves," he concluded.
