Defence Minister Links New Missile Production to a Powerful Strategic Message
In a powerful display of India's growing military self-sufficiency, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued a direct and unambiguous warning to Pakistan on Saturday. He declared that every inch of the neighboring country is now within the range of the advanced BrahMos missile system. The stern message was delivered as he, alongside Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, flagged off the first batch of indigenously produced BrahMos missiles from a new, state-of-the-art facility in Lucknow. The event marked not just a manufacturing milestone but a clear signal of India's increasingly assertive defence posture, underscored by a pointed reference to past military successes.
A New Hub for Self-Reliance in Defence
The new BrahMos Aerospace facility in Lucknow is a cornerstone of India's push for self-reliance in the defence sector. Built on a 200-acre site with an investment of approximately ₹380 crore, the unit is equipped with modern infrastructure for missile integration, testing, and quality control. This new plant is set to become a critical production hub, with officials stating it will produce nearly 100 missiles annually for all three services of the Indian Armed Forces.
During the inauguration, the Defence Minister highlighted the strategic importance of domestic production, alluding to the challenges of relying on foreign suppliers. In a veiled reference to recent geopolitical dynamics, he noted that disruptions in the supply of spare parts are increasingly being used as a "weapon" by other nations. He emphasized that India is now actively overcoming this challenge, with the Lucknow facility standing as a testament to the nation's commitment to building a robust and independent defence industrial base.
'Operation Sindoor Was Just a Trailer'
Rajnath Singh explicitly linked the new missile capabilities to India's military resolve, framing the successful "Operation Sindoor" as merely a "trailer" of the country's capabilities. Operation Sindoor was India's decisive military response to a terror attack in Pahalgam, which involved striking terror camps and military sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. By invoking this operation, Singh reinforced the message that India is prepared to act decisively to protect its security interests.
He further sharpened his historical reference by stating, "...if India could give birth to Pakistan, I need not say anything further about what else it could do." This powerful statement, harking back to the 1971 war, serves as a stark reminder of India's conventional military superiority and its willingness to use it.
