Cold wave intensifies with dense fog impacting visibility in interior districts

Bhubaneswar: Winter has tightened its grip across the state as temperatures plummet in interior districts. According to the latest data released by the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, severe cold conditions are prevailing in the hill stations and plains alike. Similiguda (AMFU) has emerged as the coldest spot in the state, recording a shivering minimum temperature of 3.9°C.

In the plains, Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 7.5°C, marking a significant drop in mercury levels. The chilly atmosphere is not limited to just these two locations. Several other towns are feeling the freeze, with Daringbadi recording 8°C, Jharsuguda at 8.2°C, and Sundergarh at 10°C. Conversely, Paralakhemundi recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 30.8°C.

Dense Fog Disrupts Visibility

Apart from the drop in mercury, fog has become a major concern for commuters. The IMD report highlights that dense fog has enveloped Rourkela and Phulbani, reducing visibility to between 50 and 200 meters. Meanwhile, Bhawanipatna experienced moderate fog with visibility ranging from 200 to 500 meters. Residents in these areas are advised to drive with caution during early morning hours.

Twin Cities Weather Report

For the capital city of Bhubaneswar, the weather remains relatively pleasant but cool. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 13.9°C and a maximum of 28.6°C. Neighboring Cuttack saw similar conditions with a minimum of 13.4°C and a maximum of 26.6°C.

Seven-Day Forecast

Looking ahead, the IMD has predicted that the current weather pattern will persist. The forecast indicates "No large change" in minimum temperatures (night temperatures) over the districts of Odisha for the next seven days. This suggests that the dry and cold weather prevailing over the state is here to stay for the coming week without any immediate relief from the chill.
