Bhubaneswar, January 26: Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS (2008 batch, Odisha cadre), presently serving as Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack, has been conferred the Governor’s Medal for the year 2025 on the occasion of Republic Day, 2026, in recognition of his exemplary, meritorious, and distinguished service to the State and the nation.

With over 17 years of outstanding service in the Indian Police Service, Dr. Naik has held several crucial operational and leadership assignments,s including SDPO, Superintendent of Police in multiple sensitive districts, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eastern Range, and currently as IGP, Central Range, which comprises Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Jajpur districts. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional professional competence in maintaining law and order, combating organized and serious crimes, addressing communal sensitivities, and ensuring public safety during major religious festivals and other high-pressure situations.

Dr. Naik has played a pivotal role in modernizing policing and crime records management, promoting digitization of police services, strengthening human rights protection mechanisms, and expanding online citizen-centric services through mobile applications and digital modules. His leadership in handling communal tensions in Bhadrak &Balasore and Bangladeshi infiltration-related issues, and the peaceful conduct of sensitive events such as the Rath Yatra at Puri has been widely appreciated.

His exemplary leadership during Cyclone “DANA” stands out as a major achievement, where zero casualties were ensured through timely planning, large-scale evacuations, and a challenging night rescue operation in Tihidi, Bhadrak, during which 30 persons were safely rescued through hands-on supervision.

As DIG/IGP, Dr. Naik has successfully managed multiple mega festivals, public gatherings, and high-profile events across districts with meticulous planning and close personal monitoring, ensuring peaceful and incident-free conduct. Earlier, as SP, National Investigation Agency (NIA), he was associated with the investigation of high-profile cases, reflecting his experience in internal security and counter-terrorism.

In recognition of his exceptional service, Dr. Naik has received numerous awards and commendations, including the Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak (2017) from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for controlling Naxal activities, the DGP’s Disc (2024–25), D.G., NIA Commendation, SKOCH Governance Award–2023, NCRB Running Trophy for Empowering Police with Information Technology, and appreciation from the DGP, Odisha, for successfully conducting mega international events such as the Asian Games and World Cup Hockey. He is also a recipient of the Gold Medal in Essay Writing from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, along with several academic distinctions.

An alumnus of OUAT, Bhubaneswar (BVSc & AH), Dr. Naik has pursued advanced academic excellence with a Master’s Degree in Police Management from Osmania University, extensive cybercrime training from NCRB, MHA, and the prestigious Advanced Management Programme in Public Policy (AMPPP) from the Indian School of Business (ISB), where he earned two Gold Medals — Scholar of Excellence and Dean’s List.

Beyond policing, Dr. Naik is known for his discipline and fitness, having completed full marathons at Dubai (2024) and Mumbai (2019, 2020), secured 2nd position in the Triathlon at the National Police Academy, and earned medals in swimming. His interests also include adventure cycling, trekking, horse riding, and multiple sports.
