Bhubaneswar, Dec 14:Cold wave conditions intensified across Odisha on Sunday, with at least 16 locations in the state recording minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Udayagiri emerged as the coldest place in the state, where the temperature plunged to 3.1 degrees Celsius. Semiliguda followed with a low of 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Phulbani recorded 5.5 degrees Celsius. Other notably cold locations included Daringbadi at 6 degrees Celsius, Koraput at 6.5 degrees Celsius, and Chiplima at 7.8 degrees Celsius.

Several other areas also experienced severe cold conditions. Nabarangpur and Rourkela each registered minimum temperatures of 8 degrees Celsius, while Jharsuguda recorded 8.2 degrees Celsius. Bhawanipatna saw the mercury dip to 8.5 degrees Celsius, Angul to 9 degrees Celsius, and Kirei to 9.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Boudh, and Sundargarh reported temperatures hovering around the 10-degree Celsius mark.

The IMD has warned that cold wave conditions are likely to persist in several parts of Odisha over the coming days.The cold conditions will continue to remain in effect in the state for the next 6-7 days. As per the Meteorological Department predictions, the highest temperature during the day will remain at 29 degrees and the minimum night temperature is at 12 degrees.

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, particularly during early morning and night hours, to protect themselves from the biting cold.
