Boudh, Mar 19: In a tragic accident on Wednesday night, two brothers lost their lives while another sustained critical injuries when their motorcycle lost control and crashed into roadside barriers in Boudh town.

The mishap occurred around 9 pm on National Highway 57 (Khordha–Bolangir route) within the jurisdiction of Jahnapank police outpost. The deceased have been identified as Dillip Urma, 35, and Biday Urma, 21, while their brother Rohit Urma, 25, is undergoing treatment at Burla Medical College and Hospital. All three hailed from Palaspat village under Mundipadar panchayat in Boudh block.

According to reports, the brothers were returning home from Jahnapank on a motorcycle when the vehicle lost control and overturned. Eyewitnesses said the bike was travelling at high speed near a bend when the rider lost control, causing the motorcycle to crash. The impact was severe, with the bike smashing into three roadside pillars before plunging nearly 10 feet into a drain.

Locals rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, transporting them to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors declared Dillip and Biday dead, while Rohit, critically injured, was later transferred to Burla for advanced medical care.

Police officials from Jahnapank outpost, led by officer Brahmananda Pradhan, reached the site, seized the damaged motorcycle, and launched an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest overspeeding may have contributed to the accident, though inquiries are underway.
