Bhubaneswar, Dec 5:  In a groundbreaking development, Nandankanan Zoological Park is preparing to welcome African cheetahs for the first time ever. The arrival of these majestic and swift creatures, known as the fastest land animals, is set to become a major attraction and is expected to significantly boost visitor interest at the park.

Currently, Nandankanan does not house any cheetahs, making this a milestone moment for the zoo. Construction work on a state-of-the-art cheetah enclosure is well underway, with zoo officials confirming that the habitat will meet international standards. The design focuses on providing an environment that closely resembles the cheetahs' natural habitat in the wild.

A dedicated viewing gallery is also being developed to offer visitors a safe and unobstructed view of the cheetahs in action. To ensure both clarity and safety, the enclosure will feature a premium glass viewing panel imported from Thailand, promising a world-class experience for visitors.

To simulate the wild, the new habitat will also be home to several herbivores, providing the cheetahs with opportunities to exhibit their natural hunting behaviours. This arrangement aims to replicate the dynamics of the wild, offering the cheetahs the space and conditions they need to thrive.

Known for their ability to sprint at speeds of up to 120 km/h, the cheetahs are set to be one of the zoo’s biggest attractions once they arrive. Their arrival will not only make Nandankanan a key destination for wildlife enthusiasts but also highlight the zoo’s efforts to introduce species that are critical to conservation.

With the preparations almost complete, the arrival of African cheetahs at Nandankanan represents a significant milestone in the zoo’s history, marking a new chapter in its commitment to wildlife conservation and education.
