Bhubaneswar, October 21: Odisha is fully prepared to tackle any cyclone or heavy rainfall due to a developing system in the Bay of Bengal, said Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday.

The state government has issued alerts to all district administrations and is monitoring weather patterns from both the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and foreign weather agencies. Two low-pressure systems are forming in the Bay, with the IMD predicting rainfall and an American agency considering a cyclone. Southern Odisha is under red alert, and coastal areas are on orange alert, Pujari confirmed.

All precautionary measures are in place, and the government is ready to respond if the situation worsens, the Minister assured.

Meanwhile, IMD Bhubaneswar’s Director Manorama Mohanty stated that the low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is intensifying and may develop into a depression in 24 hours. However, it will not directly affect Odisha.

The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and gusty winds, in several parts of the state over the next five days, particularly in southern, coastal, and northern Odisha. Yellow warnings have been issued for several districts, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, and Cuttack, for the next 24 hours.
