Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: A 5-year-old boy sustained severe burns after hot rice water accidentally spilled over him at his home in Aitalang village under Balipatna police station.

According to reports, the child, son of Mantu Bhoi, was playing at home on Friday morning when his mother went to pour cooked rice into a pan. The boy ran towards her, accidentally knocked her, and fell down, causing the hot rice to spill onto his body.

The child suffered burns on his back, shoulders, stomach, arms, and other parts of his body. Family members immediately rushed him to Balipatna Community Health Center, and due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was referred to Capital Hospital for advanced treatment.

Doctors attending to the child stated that approximately 40% of his body has been burned, and he remains in critical condition.
