Bhawanipatna, Nov 27: Former Junior Accountant Ajit Kumar Mishra of the Electrical Sub-Division Office, Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district, has been convicted in a bribery case dating back to 2019. The verdict was delivered today by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna.

Mishra, who is now retired, had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 27 dated 02.10.2019 under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a consumer in exchange for reducing an electricity bill.

The court sentenced him to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance announced that it will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Mishra’s pension.
