AAI to investigate Bhubaneswar airport building collapse, contractor detained

Bhubaneswar, Jan 25: Airports Authority of India (AAI) will probe into the Bhubaneswar airport building collapse incident that claimed one life last night. AAI will constitute a committee to inquire into the under-construction building collapse case, said Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) Director VV Rao on Saturday. Meanwhile, police detained the managing director of Dilip Construction Private Limited, Dilip Khatoi, in connection with the building collapse incident. One person was killed and another one injured after the roof of an under-construction building collapsed here in the premises of BPIA. The duo was identified as labourers who were carrying out construction works in the structure when the incident took place last night. The deceased has been identified as Antarjyami Guru of Badamba-Narasinghpur area in Cuttack district and the injured Naba Kishore Swain was admitted to Capital Hospital here. A portion of the roof, measuring around 10,000 square feet, of the structure that was under-construction to connect terminal 1 and terminal 2 of the airport collapsed at around 11 am on Friday night. The rescue operation was completed after hours of joint effort by the fire personnel and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF).
