Bhubaneswar, January 6: The Special POCSO Court in Padmapur, Bargarh, sentenced Prashant Bag, alias Bariha, to death for the rape and brutal murder of a six-year-old girl in Soda village on November 15, 2024. In addition to the death sentence, the court imposed life imprisonment and ordered Rs 15 lakh compensation to the victim's family.

The case, investigated under the direct supervision of Bargarh SP Prahlad Sahai Meena, involved advanced forensic methods, including DNA analysis, to establish guilt.

The accused was convicted based on the testimonies of 37 witnesses and solid evidence under relevant legal provisions, including the POCSO Act.

Odisha Police praised the swift investigation and trial, citing the improved criminal justice process under new laws, which have led to higher conviction rates in crimes against women and children.
