Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: A man was killed in a hit-and-run incident on the Rudrapur stretch of the National Highway after being struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Somanath Khuntia of Sundar Patna under the Rudrapur area. He died on the spot following the impact, sources said.

On receiving information, cops from Pahala Police Station rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating crowd. The body was later sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. Family members of the deceased demanded that the body be handed over immediately after completion of the inquest.

Meanwhile, local residents voiced serious concerns over road safety in the area. They demanded the construction of a foot overbridge, installation of adequate street lighting, and regular patrolling by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to prevent such mishaps in the future.
