New Delhi, Nov 12: The Embassy of Egypt in India hosted an elegant gala evening at the Egypt House in New Delhi, celebrating the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) — the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.

The celebration, led by Kamel Galal, Ambassador of Egypt to India, and Reham Handoussa, beautifully captured the essence of Egypt’s cultural grandeur and its growing ties with India.

The event was co-organized by Egypt Air and Sopaan, the cultural platform founded by Ambassador Monika Kapil Mohta and Siddhaant Mohta, with the warm support of L’Opéra, Allied Aviation,

The gala brought together distinguished members of the diplomatic community, leading business figures, and art patrons from Delhi. The evening opened with a visually stunning film on the Grand Egyptian Museum, followed by a Kathak performance by Shivani Varma, blending Indian classical grace with pharaonic inspiration. The audience was further enthralled by a spectacular Tanoura dance by Egyptian artist Ahmed, specially invited for the occasion.

Adding to the evening’s charm was L’Opéra, Delhi’s premier French patisserie brand, which crafted a bespoke selection of desserts for the gala. Its exquisite creations — fusing European finesse with Middle Eastern undertones — perfectly complemented the event’s theme of cultural exchange.

Allied Aviation, a valued partner in air connectivity and hospitality logistics, played a pivotal role in supporting the event’s execution. Its involvement underscored the deepening cooperation between India and Egypt in the fields of aviation, tourism, and global travel experience.

Guests were also introduced to a curated VIP travel experience designed for select Indian travelers to explore Egypt’s legendary treasures — including the newly inaugurated Grand Egyptian Museum. The evening concluded with an opulent dinner featuring authentic Egyptian cuisine prepared in the Ambassador’s residence kitchen, offering guests a true taste of Egypt.

In his address, Ambassador Kamel Galal remarked, “The Grand Egyptian Museum stands as a monumental tribute to Egypt’s eternal civilization. It symbolizes our commitment to sharing the spirit of Egypt with the world — a bridge between our glorious past and our modern aspirations.”

Situated on the Giza Plateau, just two kilometers from the Great Pyramid, the Grand Egyptian Museum is one of Egypt’s most ambitious cultural projects. Spanning 120 acres and built at a cost of $1.2 billion, GEM harmoniously links ancient heritage with modern architecture.

It houses more than 100,000 artifacts, including the complete Tutankhamun collection — over 5,000 objects displayed together for the first time — as well as Khufu’s solar boat, monumental sculptures, manuscripts, and royal mummies.

With 19 advanced conservation laboratories, the museum also serves as a global hub for archaeological research and cultural preservation. Expected to attract 5–7 million visitors annually, GEM represents Egypt’s enduring gift to the world.
