Rayagada, March 13: A daring robbery took place in Rayagada town after miscreants looted valuables from the house of a Public Works Department (PWD) employee at gunpoint late on Thursday night.

The victim has been identified as Basanta Kumar Mishra, who lives near the Fire Station area in the city. According to reports, around four to five armed miscreants barged into his house at about 11 pm on Thursday.

The accused allegedly tied Mishra’s hands and legs and assaulted him for several hours. They looted gold chains, rings and other valuables from the house. The miscreants also forced him at gunpoint to transfer ₹11,000 from his PhonePe account.

Sources said the robbers further compelled him to sign bank withdrawal forms to withdraw money from his account. Before leaving, they allegedly threatened to kill him if he informed the police.

At around 4 am, the miscreants locked the house from outside and fled the spot. On Friday morning, Mishra raised an alarm and, after hearing his cries for help, neighbours rescued him and rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

On receiving information, Rayagada police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
