Boudh, Nov 13: A day after busting a dacoit gang that was posing as police squad, the Boudh police on Wednesday arrested a fake cop who was extorting money from the locals.
He was misleading people of impersonating himself as a police officer.
The accused, identified as Sharat Behera from Nakuanali village, used to extort money from villagers wearing a fake police uniform.
Police have seized a fake police identity card with belt, and mobile phone from Behera’s possession.
According to reports, a group of youths led by Behera, were extorting money from the Chandipur area by posing as police officers.
Acting on a number of complaints, the Boudh police spied on it and apprehended Behera red-handed. Meanwhile, some of his aides escaped narrowly from police.
Further raids are underway to nab the other accused persons who are on the run, said Inspector of Police Ranjit Kumar Muni.
