Khordha, Aug 8: A tragic incident occurred in Khordha district on Friday when a youth collapsed and died while undergoing a physical fitness test for home guard recruitment.
The incident took place at the Taratua Reserve Police grounds. According to sources, the deceased, identified as Imadul Haque from the Keranga area, was participating in the 1,600-metre running event as part of the selection process.
Midway through the run, Imadul suddenly fell ill and collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the death, while the post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause.
The sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom over the recruitment drive, leaving fellow candidates and locals in shock.
