Tearful adieu: Odia IAF jawan Ranapratap consigned to flames

Angul, Dec 11: The mortal remains of Junior Warrant Officer Rana Pratap Das of Indian Air Force, who died in a helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu on December 8, were consigned to flames amid the chanting of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jay' at his native village on Saturday. The last rites were performed at his birthplace, Krishnachandrapur under Talcher sub-division. The body of Rana Pratap was taken in a grand procession in and around his village after it was handed over by the Indian Air Force. Hundreds of locals along with district administration officials and politicians showered flowers on the officer and paid heartfelt adieu to the great soul. {"id":152947,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} Later, the last rites were performed at a special crematorium prepared by the villagers. Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other dignitaries paid their tribute after a Special IAF Aircraft carrying the mortal remains of the Air force officer landed at the Biju Patnaik International Airport and a guard of honour was given.
