In his welcome address at the event held on Thursday at the OUAT campus, Sahu highlighted this year's theme focused on tackling plastic pollution. He informed that 10,000 Eco Clubs and 16,000 Forest Committees are actively working towards this goal.

On an average, an individual in India uses 11 kilograms of plastic annually, and tons of plastic waste end up in rivers, further contributing to the decline of aquatic life.

Sahu stressed the alarming impact of plastic waste on wildlife and the environment, pointing out that plastic waste material is increasing day by day. On a positive note, he shared that 200 picnic spots in the state had already been declared plastic-free last year, and now all picnic spots will follow suit. In addition, cloth bags and vending machines for eco-friendly alternatives will be set up at key locations across the city.

As part of the event, 185 "Nature Friends" and 211 "Environment Friends" will also be honored for their contribution to environmental conservation.
