The inaugural World Elephant Day was launched to bring attention to the urgent plight of Asian and African elephants. Elephants are loved, respected, and revered by people and cultures around the world, but we were ready to take a look at these last magnificent creatures. Increased hunting, habitat loss, human-elephant conflict and abuse in captivity are just a few of the threats to African and Asian elephants. Efforts to better protect wild elephants, improve law enforcement actions to prevent illegal hunting and ivory trade, protect elephant habitat, improve treatment of captured elephants and, if necessary, reintroduce elephants. Protected areas are the goal of many elephant refuges. The organization focuses on the whole world. World Elephant Day asks you to experience elephants in an unsustainable and sustainable environment where elephants can breed under care and protection. On World Elephant Day, August 12, express your concerns, share your knowledge and support solutions for better care for captive elephants and wild elephants. To draw attention to the plight of elephants and to recognize the importance of elephants in our ecosystem, World Elephant Day is celebrated on 12 August. Over the years, the initiative has received widespread support from celebrities, politicians and others.
