Dhenkanal, April 15: A 55-year-old woman was killed in an elephant attack in Odisha’s Hindol area on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Jayanti Sahu of Dhundinali village under Ward No. 5 of Hindol NAC in the Hindol forest range.
According to sources, Jayanti had gone to her cashew orchard early in the morning when she suddenly came face-to-face with a tusker. With no time to escape, she was attacked and severely crushed by the elephant.
She was rescued by local villagers with the help of forest department officials and rushed to the Hindol Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The incident has once again highlighted the recurring human-elephant conflict in the Hindol region. Locals have expressed concern over the rising number of such incidents and have urged authorities to take immediate and permanent measures to prevent further loss of life.
