Cuttack, July 31: A woman reportedly went missing after abandoning her scooter on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose bridge over River Kathajodi on Wednesday.
Later, she was identified as a school teacher named Mamata Sahu of Nua Bazar locality, here,
Sources said, the incident came into light after some passers-by and locals spotted a scooter with keys, parked on the bridge and a pair of women's footwear lying near the vehicle. Initially, the locals suspected it to be a suicide bid by a woman and reported the matter to the police.
Apprised by the locals, a search operation was initiated to trace the missing lady. Her identity was traced after verification of the scooter's ownership. On being contacted, her family members confirmed that she was missing from wee hours of Wednesday with the scooter, sources added.
Since Kathajodi, a tributary of Mahanadi River is now in full spate and swollen, due to continuous rains and release of flood water from Hirakud Dam, so a search operation in the river is likely to be very tough, locals apprehended.
