Gajapati, Jan 19: Odisha’s Gajapati district saw yet another unsafe child birth after a woman had to deliver the child on the streets while being carried on a stretcher to the hospital.
According to sources, Jhunu Jani, a native of Jamdul village under R Udayagiri block in Gajapati district went into labour on Wednesday morning following which her family members and Asha karmi Gayatri Jani called 108 for an ambulance.
However, it went vain as the calls couldn’t connect due to poor network service in the area.
With no choice left, Jhunu’s family members carried her on a stretcher to the nearest hospital. Jhunu however, was in the late stage of labour and had to deliver the child mid-way to the hospital.
Following the unsafe delivery, the mother went through profuse bleeding seeing which her family members rushed to the nearest hospital in an auto rickshaw.
“We dialled 108 for an ambulance service immediately, but the call failed due to poor mobile network. Out of compulsion, we carried her on a stretcher. But she had to go through the delivery midway as the hospital is 11 km from our village,” said Asha Karmi Gayatri Jani.
Asha Karmi Gayatri has also informed that despite unsafe delivery, conditions of both the mother and her baby are stated to be stable.
