Bhubaneswar, April 1: A wildfire broke out in Chandaka wildlife sanctuary on Wednesday. Ostapada forest under Haladia range was seen ablaze in the Wednesday late afternoon.
Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) personnel located wildfire inside Ostapada region within Chandaka wildlife sanctuary. After they raised an alert, Forest officials tried to douse the fire but vain. Hence, fire tender was called for to bring the fire under fire.
However, it took a long time to put out the fire. As a result, a large part of forest got devoured in few hours, said locals.
Forest department has formed a special task force after wildfire devoured a large quantity of flora and fauna across the Simlipal biosphere in Mayurbhanj. Meanwhile, a number of forests across the state are reported to be burning due to uncontrolled wildfire.
