Bhubaneswar, May 15: Several districts in Odisha, including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Malkangiri, and Subarnapur, are facing severe petrol and diesel shortages, causing long queues at fuel stations and significant disruptions to daily life.
In Bhubaneswar, petrol pumps have witnessed crowded lines as residents struggle to find fuel. The situation has led to traffic jams on major roads, with motorists waiting for hours at stations where fuel is available. Similarly, in Subarnapur, diesel shortages at many stations have forced vehicles from outside the state to queue for extended periods.
The Kandhamal district, particularly the G. Udayagiri area, has seen rising frustration among residents due to a lack of petrol and diesel. Two main pumps, Nayara and Hindustan Petroleum, have reportedly run out of fuel, leaving bikes, autos, cars, and buses stranded. Daily commuters, employees, and business owners are facing hardships as transportation becomes unreliable.
Local authorities report that some traders are exploiting the situation by selling fuel at higher prices in small containers, adding to public dissatisfaction. While the Utkal Petroleum Dealers Association claims adequate fuel stocks exist, panic buying has depleted many tanks.
The shortages have disrupted essential transport services, particularly affecting auto and bus drivers, whose livelihoods depend on daily passenger transport. Residents fear further disruptions if the supply situation does not improve in the coming days.
Officials urge calm and have appealed for coordination between fuel companies, dealers, and the state government to ensure steady supply and prevent further inconvenience.
