The death of the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, 72-year-old Mahant Narendra Giri, has hogged the limelight.
Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday booked Anand Giri, the disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri registering an FIR on the basis of the complaint filed by another disciple Amar Giri Pawan Maharaj.
A suicide note found in the revered saint’s death case has sparked controversy after Anand Giri said that” it is a big conspiracy by people who used to extort from Guruji and wrote my name in the letter”. Mahant Narendra Giri left his home in 1983 and came to Prayagraj Sangam at the tender age of 22.
Divyanand Giri of Niranjani Akhara initiated the sannyas to Mahant in 1985 and gave the name Narendra Giri.
His Guru Mahant Balwant Giri gave him Deeksha and taught the entire initiation and sannyasa tradition to him.
Narendra Giri took over the throne of Baghambari Math in 2004 and later was made the President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad at the Nashik Kumbh in 2014.
