Seven high-level groups will tackle global supply chain disruptions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently established seven dedicated task forces to shield India from the long-term economic fallout of the West Asia conflict. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he emphasized the need for cooperative federalism, asking states to join forces with the central government. This unified "Team India" approach aims to lessen the severe impact of ongoing global tensions on daily life.
Rising hostilities in the Middle East have triggered worldwide energy shortages and severely damaged critical maritime trade routes. Modi specifically warned about the negative ripple effects on fuel, fertilisers, natural gas, and overall inflation. To combat these issues, senior government secretaries will lead specialized teams focusing on strategic affairs, consumer goods, logistics, and public communication. Furthermore, an inter-ministerial panel is now closely tracking import and export hurdles to quickly fix any emerging problems and stabilize the domestic economy through short and long-term planning.
Ensuring adequate fertiliser supplies remains a top priority for the administration as the kharif sowing season approaches. Authorities are committed to protecting agricultural productivity despite global instability. Meanwhile, maritime bottlenecks in the Strait of Hormuz are currently delaying merchant vessels, which also directly affects Indian crew members stationed on those ships. Strict orders have been issued to state governments to remain vigilant and prevent the hoarding or black marketing of essential goods during this vulnerable period.
Self-reliance stands as India's best defense against external economic shocks. Over the past ten years, the country has heavily expanded its energy import network from 27 to 41 countries. India also holds massive strategic petroleum reserves exceeding 53 lakh metric tonnes to guarantee a steady energy flow. Concluding his address, the Prime Minister championed diplomacy and peaceful dialogue as the sole method to resolve international disputes while urging citizens to remain alert and prepared for any scenario.
