Konark: Demanding immediate arrest of accused persons in the gangrape of a girl from West Bengal in confinement in Konark and transfer of Konark police station IIC, women protestors under the banner of Utkal Mahila Sangha today gheraoed the police station here.
They alleged that police has totally failed to nab the real accused involved in the heinous act even though three days have been elapsed since the girl was rescued.
Meanwhile, the Konark police detained another person in connection with the gangrape that came to limelight three days back.
The detained youth was identified as Shiba Behera, manager of the Kalijai Hotel located at Konark. Earlier, the police had detained two persons.
Notably, the girl was rescued from a locked room near Konark Market Complex on Wednesday. The survivor alleged that she was repeatedly gang-raped by 12 persons for 10 days after being kept in captivity in the house.
On being informed by some locals, fire service personnel had rescued her by breaking open the door. She was initially admitted to Gop Community Health Centre and later shifted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital.
According to sources, the survivor had been brought to Odisha by another girl named Kajal, on the pretext of providing a job to her a year ago. But they forced her into prostitution.
