Balasore, Oct 1: The incessant rainfall in Balasore district has resulted in an increase of water level in the Jalaka river near Mathani area, said the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) on Friday.
The water level has touched 5.99 metre against the danger mark of 5.50 metre in Jalaka river. The water level in four other rivers such as Brahmani, Burhabalanga, Subarnarekha, and Vansadhara, has also increased, added the SEOC.
The increased water level in several rivers may pose a possible flood threat in several districts.
It further informed that the Hirakud Dam is releasing water through two sluice gates as the reservoir is at its full capacity.
The water level of Hirakud stood at its maximum storage capacity of 630 ft today. The reservoir was receiving 63,536 cusec of water and releasing the same quantity of water.
