Bhubaneswar: Chhatisgarh has shut down most gates of the six barrages on the upper catchment areas of Hirakud, informed Hirakud Dam Chief Engineer today.
While 18 gates of Kalma barrage were closed, 45 gates of Samoda barrage were. Out of 81 gates in Mironi barrage, water was now being released only through six gates, the Chief Engineer said.
As a result, water level was declining in Hirakud Dam as only 12,000 cu ft water was entering the reservoir while 16,000 cu ft of water was being released.
“It could affect the State during non-Monsoon period,” said the Chief Engineer, adding that he had urged the Chhatisgarh Government not to close gates.
