Khallikote, Oct 22: Locals of Chasakanmana village under Chhatrapur block in Ganjam district held a demonstration before the Government Primary School in the village against the merger of the school with another school.
The villagers said that as many as 36 students from first to fifth grade are enrolled in the government primary school in Chasakanmana village.
“The students are not safe to go to another panchayat and attend the school there,” said school committee chairperson Shantilata Pradhan.
The villagers detained Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC) Kamal Kumar Behera, who was on a school visit and said that he would not be released until a written reply is received.
Later, the villagers released him after the CRCC said he would put the matter infront of the Collector and the District Education Officer.
The villagers have sent a letter to the Block Education Officer in the matter and threatened that as long as the education department doesn’t stop merging of the schools till then the school will be locked and no children from the village will go to another village to study.
