Villagers and forest officials face off over timber in Balasore

Nilagiri, May 28: Villagers and forest officials have faced off over timber under Nilagiri Forest Range in Balasore on Friday. Resident of Gudisula and Baliajhar village opposed forest officials to procure timbers those fell for the cyclone Yaas. Sources said, Gudisula and Baliajhar villagers were collecting the Potash and Akasia timber from their nearby forest those fell due to the wind. The forest official also insisted to procure the same wood logs demanding it as the property of government. However, the villagers opposed it on preserving and watching it since long. As a result, oral spat broke between the two groups Anticipating law and order situation at the site, Ayodhya outpost police rushed the spot and managed the situation. Meanwhile, the Range Officer Nilagiri asked the people to form a Grama Jungle Committee for watch and ward of the forest products.
