Bhubaneswar, June 27: The Odisha Vigilance officials have arrested a junior clerk at the Gaon Sathi of Balipatna in Bhubaneswar while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
The accused has been identified as Sagar Chandra Palai.
Sources said, Palai had demanded a bribe from an individual to release the last installment in respect of payment towards the excavation of a pond on his land under the MGNREGA – Individual scheme. Even after the completion of the work, the accused Palai was demanding a bribe Rs.15,000/- to release the last installment in favour of the complainant.
Finding no other way, the complainant informed the Vigilance authorities, narrating his harassment by the accused Gaon Sathi Sri Palai. Following this, Vigilance Officers nabbed the accused Palai, Gaon Sathi, while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000/- from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the accused Sri Palai, and seized.
Following the trap, one place associated with the accused Gaon Sathi Palai as part of a Disproportionate Assets (DA) investigation.
Further investigation is underway.
