Vigilance apprehends tax collector of Bargarh while accepting bribe

Bargarh, Feb 17: A tax collector working at N.A.C, Padampur under Bargarh District was caught red-handed by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and accepting bribe here on Thursday. The tax collector has been identified as Dinabandhu Panda. The vigilance team caught him red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25, 000. The anti-corruption agency laid a trap against Dinabandhu based on the complainant for transfer of holding number and reduction of annual holding tax in respect of purchased building in the name of the complainant. Following the raid, simultaneous house searches are underway at properties of Panda at two places in the Bargarh district. A case has been filed with Sambalpur Vigilance under section 7 PC (Amendment) Act 2018 in this connection. Further investigation is on.
